Did you know that the tech sector is responsible for 2% to 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions? With this data as a starting point, at the Tech Tourism Cluster we have held a participatory workshop to reflect on the environmental impact of technology in the tourism sector and how we can minimize it from a business and sustainable perspective.
We had the pleasure of having Maria Armiñana, member of the Chair of Circular Economy and Sustainability at TecnoCampus, who has led this inspiring session. The workshop has been an opportunity to rethink business models and identify key points to move towards a more environmentally friendly activity.
The attending companies have been able to work with the EcoCanvas tool, a practical methodology that facilitates the analysis of business strategy from the perspective of sustainability. This approach has allowed to open a space for enriching debate where to share challenges, ideas and concrete actions to be implemented within the framework of the circular economy.
Throughout the workshop, key issues have also been addressed such as the need to abandon the linear model of production and consumption, the importance of reducing the impact of data centers and electronic waste, and the proposal of new circular business models: from recyclable supplies and services instead of products, to collaborative platforms and strategies to extend the useful life of technological goods.
From the Tech Tourism Cluster we appreciate the active participation of all the attendees and we hope that this workshop has served as an engine to continue advancing towards a more sustainable future in tourism.
